The mission of Gospel Kanji is to reveal the message of the Gospel through the written language of Japan and to share the good news of Jesus Christ with both the Japanese people and the wider world.
Gospel Kanji explores how the structure and imagery of Japanese characters illuminate biblical themes and open meaningful conversations about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through these linguistic and cultural connections, the project seeks to build a respectful bridge between the message of the Bible and the heritage of Japan.
The goal is not to westernize Japan or to replace Japanese culture. Rather, the Gospel speaks to every nation in its own language and within its own culture. The message of Christ is not foreign to Japan. It is a message of hope for every individual.
In a society facing many of the same struggles seen across the world (declining birthrates, isolation, anxiety, overwork, and loss of spiritual direction) the Gospel offers something profoundly personal. It offers reconciliation with God, freedom of the soul, restored purpose, and renewed love for others.
When Japanese people encounter the message of Christ, they do not become less Japanese. They become better fathers and mothers, better neighbors, better contributors to their communities, and people whose lives are anchored in hope.
Through books, videos, teaching, and research, Gospel Kanji exists to present the Gospel clearly, respectfully, and thoughtfully so that people in Japan and around the world may discover the hope found in Jesus Christ.
